Final Packaging
Today we received the last bits of final packaging for all of our products. This means we can start full-scale production after the Christmas period. A big part of our first production batch will go towards making sure gyms and retailers can get their hands on product samples. These are relatively small batches and sad

Use Less Chalk
Your use of chalk powder can turn the gym into a place unfit for work and play. Chalk dust particles can stay a long time in your lungs and may cause pulmonary inflammation. A dusty gym can reduce lung function by up to 20%. Chalk powder makes your skin dry and prone to cracking. The solution is simple: USE LESS CHALK

100 Christmas Trees
This week, we sent out samples as Christmas gifts to gyms in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. As we've been doing all year long, we have planted 100 trees. Skincare Kit for Climbers
We're going to add one more product to our line-up: a skincare kit bag for climbers. I used to have a BBZ' chalk bag which had a handy compartment at the bottom. We're still working towards becoming CO2-neutral for our other products. We w

Starting A Business in Lockdown
We found the inspiration to start CHALK REBELS on a climbing trip to China in December of 2019. Over there we climbed on pristine chalk-free rock in Yunnan Province at Shigu and Liming. The only reason those climbing areas are still relatively clean today is because they are remote. They don’t see a lot of climbing tra

Startup School Graduation
It’s been a while since our last update here. We did a big sprint in August and September to get the Chalk Cream product ready for market. Part of our sense of urgency at the time was provoked by our participation in Y Combinator’s Startup School. We have since graduated the program. The big take-away from that experie

Chalk & Coefficient of Friction
This study from 2012 explores the effect of chalk and humidity on friction in a simulated climbing setting with an inclined hangboard. This study shows that chalk does increase friction, especially on sandstone. Surprisingly it does not show a correlation between temperature/humidity and friction. This post is part of
